Kumamoto is known as a castle town of Edo period (17-19c). You can see the hisitrorcal pace such as the honmaru Goten(main castle buiilding), underground passge, old castle town, samurai residence, and so on. On the east of city, there is one of the largest calderas in the world, Mt. Aso. Kumamoto is blessed with plentiful vegetable and fruits, thriving in the earth watered by Aso underground river. On the south, since there is the seaside area of Amakusa, Kumamoto is blessed with fresed seafood and produce. Though Kumamoto airport is the nearest airport, You can also arrived by one hour Kyusyu Sinkansen (IR Kyusyu) ride from Fukuoka airport. You can enjoy to attend the AAI 2016 congress and also enjoy an big Kyushyu island.
